Housewarming

The day of the big party is here. It seemed like just another party, but today it dawns on me that it is the biggest event I have ever hosted.

There is a feeling of anticipation, excitement and anxiety - a little like the opening chapter of Lord of the Rings. There, Bilbo’s birthday party sets the stage for the start of Frodo’s adventures. Well, although not of the same scale, but the sense of setting things in motion and letting events take its course.

My biggest worry - will the guests be able to entertain themselves? I’ve tried to get everything in place and ready - chips, food, drink, snacks. But these are all people from different places in my life - family, church, university, army, hospice. They are as diverse as my interests themself. I’m praying hard for an atmosphere of fellowship, that I merely serve as an catalyst to spark interesting conversation.

And another worry is my place - its very small, and there will be nearly thirty guests squeezed into this tiny apartment of mine. Will it be uncomfortable? Will they be upset? I’m running through the physical arrangement mentally, to see if people fit in the respective rooms. I’ll open up the balconies and spill out in the the lift foyer. I’ll make them fit!

Epilogue

The party is finally over, and no visible disasters! Everyone found their place, got fed and left in a good mood. Can’t ask for more, can I?
