The World Inches Closer to War
President Bush will address a nation on the brink of war. His speech later will be an ultimatum of sorts to Saddam.
I’m wondering and praying about the world that has changed so much since I was born into it. A world that was menaced by two rival superpowers is now reduced to a single Power that respects no international consensus and no laws except its own. It is a Power afraid of an unknown menace - one that answers to no higher power and kills innocent beings in the name of God. That fear has led it to strike out at those it hate, without considering how hatred will breed more violence.
The sabre-rattling has gone on for months now, but reading the news tonight, I’m suddenly struck by how close we are to seeing blood being shed. I am fearful - for the future of this world, and for the generations to come. What kind of legacy will we leave behind. A polluted planet, divided between the rich and powerful, plagued by terror and mistrust.
Yet, while there is life on this earth, we must be hopeful.
We know that in everything God works for good with those who love him [Rom 8:28]
