The Wedding Weekend
At last, the weekend that will change my life has arrived! In a mere 48 hours, I will have affirmed to my family, relations and community that I have taken R to be my wife, promising to be true to her in good times and in bad, in sickness and in health; to love and honour her all the days of my life.
Today started with the rehearsal for the Mass, which went rather well. We had a lot of help from friends and that was a blessing.
The frantic pace of preparations has risen to a new level with the arrival of relatives and friends from distant places. My uncles and aunts from Malaysia, USA and New Zealand have arrived. Her uncles and aunts from India, UK and Malaysia have also arrived. We spend most of the afternoon picking people up from the airport.
Tomorrow we have a family lunch. We tried to plan it such that our relatives would mix, but at the same time not end up with bad company. Alas, careful preparation cannot hide the fact that some people come from vastly different backgrounds and cultures.
There are even matters which we cannot foresee. Good weather in the afternoon will allow us to have our dinner in the garden as planned - otherwise we will have to endure a packed function room.
Ah, a few more hours.
