A Child is Born!
After weeks of vigil, we’ve finally welcomed our baby into this world! Here are the important details:
- Date and time: 3 June 2006, 7.06pm
- Place: National University Hospital, Singapore
- Gender: Male
- Weight: 3.03kg
- Length: 52cm
Chronology of events on 3 June 2006:
- 0100: Start of strong contractions, 5 minutes apart. VD drove us to NUH.
- 0115: Admitted to the Delivery Ward, Suite 12.
- 0130: Dilation is only 2cm wide. Long way to go.
- 0300: Epidural is administered to ease the pain. This is a minor procedure and RD had a great anesthesiologist (Dr Sugam - thanks!)
- 0315: Water bag is broken to assist contractions. Dilation is now 3cm.
- 1200: Hours of waiting, and dilation is still 3cm. Fear that we can’t get a normal vaginal delivery if cervix doesn’t open.
- 1500: Dilation is now 6cm! Progress at last.
- 1700: Dilation is now 8cm. Hopeful for normal delivery at 7pm.
- 1830: Dilation is still 8cm. Gyne finds that part of the cervix hasn’t opened and head is stuck. Decides to go start emergency C-section.
- 1900: Operating theatre - I was allowed in as an observer, and RD was concious as well (under epidural)
- 1906: It’s a boy!
- 2100: Mother comes out of post-op recovery, and family is together at Ward 96, Room 11. First suckle.
Planned discharge from hospital will be on Thursday.
